UNESCO’s International Hydrological Programme and the UN World Water Assessment Programme have launched the Trans-boundary Water Assessment Programme to conduct a global assessment of the status of transboundary water systems.

The programme will develop methods to assess transboundary groundwater, transboundary lakes/reservoirs, transboundary river basins, large marine ecosystems, and open ocean areas.
