The South Asia Water Initiative (SAWI) is a multi-donor partnership between the World Bank and the Governments of AustraliaNorway and the United Kingdom. SAWI’s goal is to increase regional cooperation in the management of the Himalayan River systems and support sustainable, fair and inclusive development, and climate resilience.

SAWI supports activities related to the management of the Greater Himalayas transboundary water systems in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Nepal, and Pakistan.

Its work focuses on: 1) the Ganges Basin, 2) the Brahmaputra Basin, 3) the Indus Basin, 4) the Sundarbans Landscape, and 5) Regional Cooperation.
